LIA Cast 155 - Inking

Talking about inking on the Lean Into Art Cast!

We all know by now that there are no “right” tools for drawing. But how do you begin an investigation into which tools to use? How do you interview the tool for the job you want it to do? On that topic, how do you define the tool’s job description?

Join us for an exploration of various inking tools we have used and continued to use in our illustration and comics work. We’ll hold live demos for as many of the inking tools as time allows.

LIA Cast 154 - A Service-Minded Approach

How do you know for whom you’re making a thing?

Do you establish this at the outset, or is it something you discover in the process of making the thing? Can the intended audience change over the lifespan of making a thing, and if so, how do you adjust to that? Can thinking about serving a specific audience serve as a useful design constraint, or is it a fast track to paralyzing your creativity?

Join Rob and Jerzy for a discussion on how our thinking can change when we think about whom we’re trying to serve as a benchmark for projects, products, advocacy, and networking.

LIA Cast 151 - Things to Post About While Making a Thing

Talking about creating a conversation around your art on the LIA Cast!

We all know now that if you want the thing you make to be sustainable, simply making the thing isn’t enough. Common wisdom says that we must maintain a presence, posting items to foster discussion, then stay in constant discussion with the constituencies we build around that presence.

But what do you post about? Is the posting about the thing a whole new thing-making project, or can you sample from the incidental elements that happen when making the main thing? What pieces of experience contribute to the overall story of making the thing?

Join us for an exploration of finding those incidental pieces worth sharing and with which we can build discussion around the thing we’re making.
